The excellent Astronaut Ellison S. Onizuka Space Center is located at the KOA Kona International Airport. This educational facility dedicated to the memory of Hawaii’s first astronaut who perished aboard the Challenger Mission in 1986. The Center’s interactive exhibits and videos tell the history of manned space flight, physics and daily life in space. There are artifacts here that you will not see elsewhere; the museum is truly worth a visit. Open daily 08:30- 16:30 pm (closed Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day).  Disabled Facilities at the KOA Kona Airport

Disabled facilities at Kona Airport are limited, as there are no level entry jetways or loading bridges for passengers (aircraft boarding is from the ground level, using portable stairs). Passengers with mobility impairments are provided boarding lift service, which may only be arranged in advance through your airline.

Regardless, accessible loading and unloading zones are available, and accessible parking spaces are conveniently located in the public parking lot directly across the terminal near the crosswalks. Accessible restrooms are available, as well as text telephones (TTYs) for the deaf and hard of hearing.
